CAPRI
5km (3 miles) off the tip of the Sorrentine peninsula.
Capri is another of the world famous resorts of Italy and it
has been given further publicity
by the movie makers of Hollywood.
It is among the loveliest resorts
in Italy, a spectacular island
that soars upward from the sea,
with extensive views, whitewashed
homes and villas, fragrant lemon
trees, narrow winding lanes, and
flower-filled courtyards. For
eight months, from March to
October, it is completely swamped
by both International and local
vacationers. They come to
experience its romantic atmosphere
and gorgeous scenery.
Capri is an island and getting there, as also going around it
is relatively simple. You dock at
the Marina Grande, the port
area, from where you can then take
the funicular up the steep hill to
the town of Capri above.
You will find the major hotels,
restaurants, cafes, and shops
here. From Capri, a short bus ride
will get you to Anacapri,
which is perched at the top of the
island near Monte Solaro. The only
other settlement worth of a
visit is Marina Piccola,
on the south side of the island
and a major beach. There are also
beaches at Punta Carnea and
Bagni di Tiberio.
