Cortina
d'Ampezzo
161km
(100 miles) N of Venice, 411km
(255 miles) NE of Milan.
The town is situated in a valley that is surrounded by
Dolomite peaks. A drive in the
countryside around the town will
be rewarding for the tourist, as
the scenery is simply
breathtaking. The food served by
the restaurants is excellent and
follows the culinary tastes of
Venice and Tirol. The snowy
Dolomites are unique to the area
and well worth an exploration.
Cortina has been a tourist
attraction from the early
twentieth century. After the 1956
Olympics the tourist traffic to
the city has increased by leaps
and bounds. Nature lovers come in
hordes in the summer months and
the skiers in the winter months.
The hotel rates are high,
especially during the peak season
months of July and August and also
during the winter months of
November through to January.
