Aosta
184km (114 miles) NW of Milan, 126km (78 miles) N of Turin,
745km (462 miles) NW of Rome.
This city lies on one of the major road arteries of Italy,
and this makes it the ideal
stopover for those who wish to
rest for the night, after a hard
days driving. It will also make
the perfect base for those who
wish to visit the Valle d’Aosta,
or maybe go to the top of the
mountain that towers over the town
– the Conca di Pila.
There is a cable car for
the use of those who wish to do
so. The city was founded by
Augustus Caesar, but is no longer
the quaint town it once used to
be. It has at times been called
the “Rome of the Alps”,
unfortunately it does not
live up to the name. You can see
the peaks of Mont Blanc and San
Bernadofrom the city. Aosta boasts
of a population of fourty thousand
souls who mainly depend on tourism
for their livelihood.
