PADUA
40km
(25 miles) W of Venice, 81km (50
miles) E of Verona, 233km (144
miles) E of Milan.
Padua is a kind of poor relation to neighbouring Venice.
People who cannot afford the
prices of that city stay at the
cheaper Padua and commute to
Venice. Though not as attractive
as Venice, Padua has its own ways
of luring the cash spending
tourist. It was the city where
Zeffirelli shot his adaptation of
“The taming of the shrew”,
starring the incomparable pair of
Richard Burton and Elizabeth
Taylor. Its University can boast
of having such luminaries as Dante
and Galileo on its teaching staff
at a time in the past, the
University itself being the second
oldest in Italy.
