PAESTUM
40km
(25 miles) S of Salerno, 100km (62
miles) SE of Naples, 304km (188
miles) SE of Rome.
Paestum is a city situated in Campania, and it is easily
accessible from anywhere in the
district, even Naples. It is an
ancient city, and was founded by
the Greeks in Six hundred BC, but
for some reason the city was
abandoned for a few centuries. In
the middle of the eighteenth
century the ruins of the city were
excavated, and the remains and
artifacts that were recovered are
a wonderful example of the
heritage left by the Greek
colonists of Italy. It is an easy
place for the tourist to visit as
all he needs to see are the salmon
coloured temples and the museum.
AND of course the roses, it is
worth a trip to the town just to
see the roses of Paestum. They
bloom twice a year, and were
famous even in ancient times.
