PIAZZA
ARMERINA

miles) NW of Syracuse.
The importance of Piazza Armerina to tourists is mainly due
to its proximity to the ruins of
an amazing Roman Villa at Casale.
Sometimes called just
“Piazza”, the town gets its
name from one of the hills on
which it stands – The Colle
Armerino. It was a stronghold of
the Saracens in the tenth century.
Though most tourists concentrate
on the Villa Romana, Piazza
Armerina is also worth a short
visit to view its decaying, but
splendid palaces and mansions.
