Bassano
del Grappa
37km
(23 miles) N of Venice.
Bassano is best known for its liquor, grappa, a brandy
usually made from grape pomace
left in a winepress, but it's also
known for pottery, porcini
mushrooms, white asparagus, and
radicchio. It is situated at the
bottom of Mount Grappa in the
Valsugana Valley, and draws large
crowds, (mainly Italian holiday
makers), because of its scenic
beauty and its closeness to the
mountains.
